There is nothing quite like artisanal concrete. Hand Crafted in America.

A Foundation in Nature: How the LaPlante Project Balanced Strength and Serenity with Concrete Design

In a world where many homes chase trends, the LaPlante Project chose something deeper—something enduring. The vision? A modern home that felt organic, warm, and authentically tied to the land it sits on. Every decision, down to the smallest design detail, centered on this core idea: to celebrate the beauty of natural materials and honor the architectural integrity of the space. And Trueform Concrete was a key partner in bringing that vision to life.

A House with a Soul

The LaPlante home wasn’t just built with concrete—it was defined by it. Rather than soften or cover the material, the homeowners leaned into it. Oak wood, limestone plaster, and handcrafted details complemented the home’s minimalist concrete structure. Interior designer Missy of Studio M Design Co. played a central role in shaping the interiors, working closely with the clients—who also acted as their own builders—to craft a residence that feels deeply rooted in nature yet thoroughly contemporary.

“We wanted every finish to feel timeless and rooted in nature,” Missy explained. “Concrete was essential because it offered both strength and subtlety. It became a grounding element throughout the home.”

Sculptural Strength: Custom Concrete by Trueform

Trueform Concrete’s custom pieces became the connective tissue between the home's architectural foundation and its interior expression. From a statement fireplace surround to a sculptural powder room vanity and side table, each piece reinforced the design ethos: modern, natural, and enduring.

  • Fireplace Surround: The living room's focal point, a sleek custom concrete surround, brings quiet gravitas to the space. Its clean lines and matte finish echo the home’s structural clarity while adding a grounding presence that doesn’t compete with surrounding textures.
  • Powder Room Vanity: In the powder room, concrete takes on an organic character. Missy chose Trueform's 20" Rise Pedestal Sink—a cylindrical freestanding sink that permits a single-hole faucet. To echo that form, she commissioned a second freestanding concrete cylinder that doubles as an artistic element and display object.

These elements weren’t just aesthetic—they were intentional. “Trueform allowed us to achieve that modern sculptural feel without compromising warmth or authenticity,” Missy said.

Collaboration from Vision to Finish

The success of this project hinged on more than beautiful materials—it thrived on collaboration. With the homeowners leading construction and Studio M Design Co. guiding interiors, the process remained streamlined and highly intentional. Trueform’s team aligned seamlessly with that rhythm.

“They were true partners,” Missy said. “They understood the vision immediately and were willing to collaborate on the details. It made the entire process feel fluid and rewarding.”

This spirit of partnership is central to Trueform’s ethos. Every piece is made-to-order in our New Jersey facility and crafted to meet the unique vision of the client. Our mission is to realize spaces that work not just structurally, but emotionally and experientially.

Pushing the Boundaries of Decorative Concrete

While fireplaces and vanities are well-established expressions of concrete, Missy sees more potential ahead.

“I’d love to explore custom concrete furniture, wall cladding, and even exterior elements,” she said. “I’m especially excited about experimenting with fluted or reeded concrete. It adds such striking texture and dimension.”

At Trueform, we embrace that challenge. We believe concrete is more than a surface—it’s a design language. And when used thoughtfully, it speaks volumes.

More Than the Sum of Its Materials

What makes the LaPlante Project so compelling isn’t just the materials used—but how they were used. Concrete wasn’t an afterthought—it was a central character in a larger narrative about balance, permanence, and a connection to the earth.

For homeowners and designers alike, this project is a reminder that modern design doesn’t have to feel sterile. With the right materials, craftsmanship, and collaborators, it can feel warm, grounded, and deeply personal.
