Kindred Spirits: Trueform & Mark Jupiter
When Trueform teamed up with Mark Jupiter, custom furniture builder in Dumbo, Brooklyn, New York it was a match made in heaven. Mark and his team take bespoke craftsmanship and cutting-edge design and blend them into some of the most beautiful and unique furniture we’ve ever seen.
“We are the makers of beautiful things. The functional jewelry of any room,” Jupiter said about his team’s work. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. That very sentiment is a fundamental part of what we value and create at Trueform. So when we got the chance to work with the artisans at Mark Jupiter, we knew the end result would be nothing short of magnificent.
The Empire Dining Table displays industrial-meets-art-deco styling in a variety of colors and tabletop finishes from black walnut to hand rubbed copper, and concrete was a natural complement.
“Mark’s work is of the highest caliber and quality” remarks Paul Grech, Creative Director at Trueform. “When he reached out to collaborate on this table, we knew we needed to step up and deliver a concrete top that would not only highlight the inherent beauty of concrete, but provide high contrast against the exquisite antique brass base he designed."
Mark’s creative vision was deceptively simple: make it black, make it oval, and make it beveled. Our team immediately set about creating an entirely distinct black finish, which we refer to as Foundry 29. Unlike your typical concrete, this finish has a nearly marble-like warmth and a subtle texture that is revealed only in certain lighting.
"The specs were mysterious," says Grech. "We had a sense this was all going to work out rather well aesthetically, but when we finally got a glimpse of studio photos of the finished product, we were blown away.”
When it all came together, The Empire Oval Dining table had an effortless grace--bridging the gap between strength and vulnerability. The artistic level of the concrete matched the heirloom construction of the metal base. Every component was built to stand the test of time. It's a piece made to be handed down from generation to generation.
The table was officially revealed at ICFF in Manhattan in May 2022 and can be purchased exclusively through Mark Jupiter.
