9 Top Kitchen Trends Arriving in 2024

The kitchen is the heart of the home. This makes it one of the most popular and lived-in rooms in any house. The world of kitchen design is constantly evolving and new styles seem to arrive at the start of every season.

What design elements will define kitchen trends in 2024? Which materials, colors, and textures will be most in-demand as next year unfolds?

Whether you’re planning a full remodel or you simply want an update, knowing what trends to expect in 2024 will help you choose the right materials and styles for your project.

Here are 4 kitchen trends that are sure to become a must-have staple in 2024.

1. Warm Color Palettes

Sometimes, the easiest way to update a space is merely buying a new bucket of paint and reimagining the color scheme. Warm colors will be the most popular choice for kitchens in 2024.

An ideal way to incorporate a warm color palette is to start with the foundation of the kitchen: the cabinetry. Natural wood cabinetry has a warm tone that can be easily complemented by other natural finishes like granite or stone.

Some of the best warm colors include browns, creams, and beiges. You can include virtually any color as an accent color as well so long as it has warm undertones.

2. Sustainable Materials

Pairing well with a warm color palette, sustainable materials are the next upcoming kitchen design trend for 2024.

Consumers these days are trying to be more environmentally-conscious. They want to choose items that are made from sustainable materials. Nowadays, everything from lighting fixtures to kitchen sponges can be made from sustainable materials like bamboo or hemp.

A good place to start in making your kitchen more eco-friendly is to revamp the flooring. Recycled tiles, bamboo, sustainably-sourced wood, or cork are all great options for a green kitchen renovation. You could also reface your cabinets, which is a project that has a much smaller carbon footprint than a full remodel. Updating your cabinets and changing their style lets you use a more sustainable material and save money as well!

3. No More Shaker Cabinets

White Shaker cabinets are a classic that never really goes out of style. But 2024 is shaping up to see designers shifting away from this classic to other options.

Flat panel cabinets with no ornamentation are a favorite for a clean-lined kitchen. On the other hand, some are turning back to cabinets with more decoration than the Shaker as well.

Cabinet colors are making an appearance too. Even if they are a Shaker style, navy blues and deep greens are different enough that the color rather than the style are what capture the interest.

4. Matte & Concrete Textures

Matte and concrete textures are gearing up to take the world of kitchen design by storm in 2024. They fit with the minimalist trend that’s been popularized by Scandinavian styles. Both of these textures have a modern and sleek look.

High-gloss details were once a kitchen favorite, but it will be much more common to see matte finishes this year. A concrete countertop with a waterfall edge provides that matte and modern finish.

Concrete doesn't just have a contemporary vibe, but it is also extremely durable and easy to maintain. It's less susceptible to stains, fingerprints, and scratches.

5. Understated Countertops

In the same vein as matte textures, countertops will move away from the busy patterns and bold colors that have been popular. Instead, countertops will become more subdued and soft.

Bold granite grains and marble veins will leave the countertops in favor for looks that have less texture, color, and pattern. Concrete is the perfect answer to this trend. It's virtually grain free and the color is uniform.

If "understated" means boring to you, concrete has the answer to that also. Choose from just about any color (neutral or otherwise) to achieve these beautiful countertops.

    6. Hidden Appliance, Open Shelving

The last several years have seen two opposite trends make an appearance in kitchen design: hidden appliances and open shelving.

The clean, sleek look of the dishwasher and refrigerator hiding behind matching cabinet doors offers a harmonious look. It's perfect for modern, farmhouse, or Hygge designs. It makes the space look more put together without losing the functionality of the kitchen.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, open shelving leaves nothing to the imagination. Usually open shelving replaces some of the upper cabinetry. It is generally used for decorative purposes, since few of your everyday items are ready for constant display.

    7. Mixing & Matching Materials

One of the most creative design trends arriving in 2024 is to mix and match the materials in your kitchen.

Using multiple unique materials can lead to an interesting and one-of-a-kind look. Combining materials like wood and metal, or using different types of stone can add a level of dimension that will give your kitchen true character.

If you don’t want to make big changes, simply mix and match a small element, like your cabinet hardware. Choose one finish (like black matte) for the knobs, and another finish (like chrome or gold) for the handles.

    8. Butcher Block Countertops

The warmth and enduring nature of wood has always been a must have in kitchen design. Today it is mostly seen on the floors and if there are any work surfaces in wood, it's usually only on a butcher block.

That butcher block idea has migrated to the the countertops. Of course it will look stunning but if you're worried about how wood will perform in your modern kitchen, look no further than Woodform® Concrete.

Woodform is a GFRC concrete product that's already proven it's durability on the kitchen countertop. It looks, feels, and even sounds like wood. Besides a beautiful wood grain, you can also wood details like live edge, knots, etc. If you love the reclaimed wood look, Woodform has that too. Joinery, nail heads, and distressed finishes let you have a unique, custom look in concrete.

    9. Multi-Use Kitchen Space

Open-format kitchens are old news, but the way we use them has definitely changed. The kitchen today is often a dining room, work space, entertaining space, pantry, and more.

2024 sees the kitchen expanding it's footprint and design to include all these things. Designers are taking on the challenge of blending many functions into one cohesive whole visually without losing the individuality of those different functions.

You'll see seamless partitions that divide up functions without tacky and obvious screens. There will be hidden functionality that can transform as needed, shifting easily between needs. It's an interesting moment for the open-format kitchen.
